Our Story

Our farm is located on Orcas Island, part of the San Juan Islands in the Northwest Corner of Washington state. We acknowledge we reside on the ancestral lands and waters of the Coast Salish people who have called this place home since time immemorial. We honor those who called this land home for generations. Our farm was later settled by the Englehartson family in the early 1900's who cleared the pastures we graze and farm, built the house we reside in and constructed the barn that we store hay in. Some of the wells we get water from were hand dug by brothers Stan and Allan Englehartson. Our family purchased the farm in 2011 and began our journey stewarding the land.
Farming Philosophy
Our farming philosophy focuses on stewarding the land by farming regeneratively and growing food for our community. We have a closed loop system where all of our farm byproducts become compost for the next plantings. We believe healthy lands contribute to healthy communities. The health and biodiversity of our soil means our products are healthier for our community.
Who we are

What Regenerative Farming Means to us
Our farm goal is to produce nutrient dense food grown in healthy soils that we manage with limited tilling, compost application, crop rotation including a healthy dose of multi-species cover cropping. While we are not certified organic we are organic. And while there are no standards set for regenerative agriculture we stay current on the science promoting regenerative practices and build them into our farm stewardship practice. Our goal is to improve the land, to make it better for the well being of future generations
Our farm includes 20 acres of pasture that we graze rotationally with cows and sheep . Our market garden is 2 acres of intensive and rotational production. We have chickens for eggs and we raise pigs for meat. Excrement from all the animals, offal, wood chips, biochar and garden ‘wastes’ are converted to compost which supplies us with compost for all our needs including a sifted compost for plant starts.
